About Fields Wild Salmon
Company History
Fields Wild Salmon is a family partnership which sells Wild Alaska Salmon. It is a collaborative effort of three brothers and their families; Weston Fields, Duncan Fields, and Wallace Fields. The Fields have been active salmon fishermen for over 50 years, fishing first with their father DeWitt, and now with their own children in the waters of Kodiak Island in the Gulf of Alaska. Their salmon fishing business, Fields & Sons, Inc., has grown to be one of the largest family owned salmon operations in the State of Alaska.
Since 1987, the Fields family has worked with a local processor, Kodiak Salmon Packers, to process their fresh salmon. Located just a few miles from where the Fields harvest their salmon, Kodiak Salmon Packers processes salmon into both frozen and canned products. In 2002, Fields Wild Salmon was created to sell salmon processed at Kodiak Salmon Packers under the Fields Wild Salmon label and to provide labels for emerging markets, particularly international pink and sockeye salmon markets.
With a firm belief in the natural health benefits and value of wild Alaskan salmon, the Fields are working to connect customers both domestically and internationally with Wild Alaskan salmon products. They specialize in containers of canned or frozen pink and sockeye salmon and have available all five species of salmon on a seasonal basis. Domestic and international labels can be provided, if needed, for shipments as well. Inventory of wild salmon is subject to seasonal supplies, so please contact Fields Wild Salmon to learn what is available.
Fields Family Bios
Weston Fields:
Five months of the year Weston manages the day-to-day operations of Fields and Sons, Inc., living in Uyak Bay, where the family fishing operation is based. In addition, Weston is the Executive Director of The Dead Sea Scrolls Foundation, an international foundation dedicated to the publication and preservation of the Dead Sea Scrolls. He and his wife, Diane, are based in Jerusalem during the winter months but travel throughout the United States, Europe, Middle East and Africa in connection with his responsibilities. Weston has two grown children who fished many years with him in the family salmon business.
Duncan Fields:
Duncan, his wife Leslie, and their six children, spend their summers in Uyak Bay at the family salmon fishing business. He is also an attorney and a consultant on fisheries issues, serving on the North Pacific Management Council advisory panel, Alaska Seafood Marketing Board, Alaska Fisheries Marketing Board, United Fishermen of Alaska executive committee, and Technical Team of the Gulf of Alaska Coastal Communities Coalition. Duncan's office is in Kodiak, but he travels extensively throughout Alaska and the West Coast addressing fisheries issues.
Wallace Fields:
Wallace is a commercial fisherman, spending summers in Uyak Bay salmon fishing with his family, and the spring and fall seasons fishing for herring and halibut around Kodiak Island. He also manages the business office for Fields Wild Salmon and Fields & Sons, Inc., along with operating their 60’ support vessel, the F/V Cowboy. Wallace has served on various fishing related boards for the Kodiak area and the State of Alaska. He is married to Beth and they have two children. Together, the three Fields brothers bring a diverse background in salmon production, processing, and marketing to Fields Wilds Salmon. Their experience and involvement in many aspects of the salmon industry compliments the goal of Fields Wild Salmon: to provide Wild Alaska Salmon to the market place at a fair and reasonable price to buyers, sellers and fishermen.
Located in Larsen Bay, the Kodiak Salmon Packers, Inc. (KSPI) facility dates back to 1911. It is near the historic Karluk River, and is one of the largest salmon canning facilities built in Alaska. In recent years, many improvements have been made at KSPI, including a large freezer and storage dock in the spring of 2004. These improvements have kept KSPI competitive in today's global economy, producing both frozen and canned salmon products. In the spring of 2006, Icicle Seafoods purchased KSPI and incorporated it into their Alaska salmon production operations. The Fields’ catches of salmon, along with the catches of other setnet and seine fishermen in the area, are processed at KSPI. Icicle Seafoods works with the Fields family, providing quality KSPI product for the Fields Wild Salmon brand.
